God is mysterious to us. His ways are so much higher than our ways. He is infinite and we are finite. He is spirit and we are flesh. He is invisible and we are visible. However, God has chosen to reveal himself to us. Not only has he revealed Himself to us but He has also told us what He is up to. He has revealed His plan to us. He wants us to know what he is doing.
John 15:15 ”I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
Ephesians 1:9 ” he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,”
God has a plan and He has revealed it to us. Why? Because he considers us His friends. A friend communicates and tell his friends what he is up to. What an amazing honor we have. The Most High God who created the universe is telling us what his plans are. He has revealed to us what He’s up to.
What a tremendous honor. The question we have to ask ourselves is are we taking our part in His plan. He has a part for each of us to play. Ask him today what you can do to help and how you can be a part of His plans.
Throughout the book of Genesis we see how much God cares about his creation. He takes time to form man, then give him a helper. He comes down into the garden to spend time with them. (Genesis 3:8) He also is concerned about them eating from the tree of life and living forever in Genesis 3:22.
“And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”
This verse always puzzled me. God never told Adam that he couldn’t eat from the tree of life. He was only told he could not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. So does this mean Adam was able to eat from the tree of life? I believe that is the case until he fell from grace. So why would God not want Adam and Eve to eat from this tree anymore?
Because then they would live forever in their fallen, sinful state. Through the sin in the Garden, death entered the world. Death is actually God’s mercy to a painful and fallen life. Our bodies begin decaying almost from the day we are born. If we were allowed to live forever in our current form, it would be a miserable existence indeed.
We can see that God cares for us in the book of Genesis because despite our sin and wickedness he continues to do what is best for us. We see this in the story of Noah that the world falls into great wickedness. God plans on destroying all that he created, that’s how bad it got. However, God does not want to lose what he created so he finds a man and family that seek him and he reaches out to them. He has Noah build and ark and God saves Noah and his family.
God cares about his creation. God cares for you and me. God cares for our enemies. God cares for people we disagree with and don’t get along with. Always remember these truths. It will help you in every relationship you have and help you to know that you are loved.
It also helps us to understand the heart of God. He is not some cold, distant deity who ignores us or thinks lowly of us. Instead He has been willing throughout history to intervene in our lives to help us when we need him most.
In our continuing journey to know God better this year let’s look at
Genesis 2: 2: By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
After He saw all that he had done, God rested from his work. He completed his job and then took a break. Did God take a break because he was tired? Was it because he just couldn’t do anymore work? Did he collapse in exhaustion on the couch after a long week at the salt mines? No of course not. Instead he showed his creation that there is time for everything under the sun. The rhythm of life. There is a time to work and a time to rest. A time to share your faith and a time to listen. A time to call out sin and a time to heal the sinner’s wounds. God himself showed us that we must be wise in the seasons of life. How did God know his work was done? This is the question that I can’t really answer. How can we know what we need to do in each given situation? We must trust in God moment by moment. We must ask him what to do. The creator, who knew when it was appropriate to rest, will also tell us what we need to do.
If only we will take time and listen to his voice. Take the time to listen for his voice because he is longing to speak to you.
This year at the Soldier’s Hospitality House our focus is on Knowing God and giving back to him. We want to grow closer to God as we learn more about him and deepen our relationship with Him. We are beginning this study with our Bible study on Thursday nights at Community Connection. We are studying “30 days to understanding the Bible”. This will help us to lay a foundation for the rest of the year.
Community Connection is a the Spirit of Fort Hood chapel. The meal is at 5:30 and the Bible study starts at 6:30.
Also, each week I will be sharing a Scripture passage to meditate on as a group. This week think about Genesis 1:1. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”.
The God we are seeking to know better is the creator of the heavens and the earth. All that we see and can’t see in the universe was made by Him. There are so many false gods and competing faiths in our world. When we say we are getting to know God, we are talking about the creator of the world. We are talking about the God who created Adam and eve. The God who called Abram and made him into a great nation. This is the God who rescued Moses and his people from the Pharaoh and called them into the promise land. He sent his Son to redeem these same people from all their wicked and evil. Thanks be to the God whom we serve. Let’s get to know him better this year as we diligently study what the Bible says about him.
Tonight our soldier’s are sharing their testimonies from our retreat this past weekend. It was an amazing weekend and God really worked in our lives. Come hear about it! We eat at 6:30 and the testimonies will be at 7:30.
In my distress I called to the Lord,
and he answered me.
2 Deliver me, O Lord,
from lying lips,
from a deceitful tongue.
3 What shall be given to you,
and what more shall be done to you,
you deceitful tongue?
4 A warrior’s sharp arrows,
with glowing coals of the broom tree!
5 Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech,
that I dwell among the tents of Kedar!
6 Too long have I had my dwelling
among those who hate peace.
7 I am for peace,
but when I speak, they are for war!
The world we live in lies to us. It is filled to the brim with falsehoods. We eat deceit for breakfast and wash it down with dishonesty. The news, the television, books, the internet, politicians and preachers. We are told that as long as we live our lives how we see fit then we are o.k. The Bible shows us otherwise. We are living in a land that hates peace. Although we like the idea of peace with each other our world is at war with God.
This Psalm shows us the road to reconciling with God. It begins with repentance. This is when we turn our back on the world’s lies and begin to accept God’s Word as truth. The answer is to call out to God. In our distress cry out to HIm. Seek His way. Only if we turn our back on the world and follow Him will we find peace.
Repentance is not simply an emotion that we feel bad for what we have done. It is a decision to turn our back on the lies and follow the Truth. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life. Turn your back on the lies of the world and focus on Jesus through reading his Word and prayer. Don’t spend your life reading Facebook, watching the news, reading the newspaper, watching reality shows, and worrying about politics and the lies of politicians. God’s arrows of judgment will be all the deceivers find. As for you: you have been called to a higher purpose. Walk in a manner worthy of the Gospel for which you have been called.
Let’s walk worthy together!
Tonight, Friday December 7th is our white elephant Christmas party. Bring a tacky or used gift wrapped up and bring food to share. Whatever food you bring is what we will have to eat. The party starts at 6:30. We will be playing a couple of Christmas games and having a great time.
Hope to see you there.
